The Nothing-to-do-with-beauty post

Hi Everyone!

So, if you read my bio, you may know that i am a college student attempting to get my MA in mental health counseling. right now, i’m finishing my bachelor’s degree in psychology. I have this really tough class that i’m taking and have to administer a survey to sixty people.

I was wondering if a few of my followers wouldn’t mind answering a simple 5 question survey about soda for me. This is the link:

Thank you guys so much! I am so freaking out about this project, but if i can get it done i promise to get my NARS post up today!

check this out! 🙂

Hey there all you pretty ladies! Im really excited about this post! Why? Because I love, love, love eos AND this will be the first of many Giveaways I host on this blog. But first things first!

I wanted to share with you the eos products I cant live without! Lets get started!

  • Lip Balm: Smooth Sphere: I have this balm in 3 flavors: Honeysuckle Honeydew, Summer Fruit, & Sweet Mint. All 3 are good enough to eat! And you probably could, considering its 95% organic, 100% natural. (did I mention Gluten, Paraben, Petrolatum & Phthalate free?!). All the flavors are chock full of vitamin E and Shea Butter to make sure your lips experience nothing but delicious, hydrating smoothness. I’ve proclaimed these as little bits of heaven for even the chappiest of lips. Definitely my number 1.

Sierra Lei.

SierraLei, you have 24 hours to contact me via email and indicate your preference (Lush or Sephora) :

How the winner was chosen: I made a list of all 27 users who entered (even repeat comments) and listed them. I then randomized the list. Then i used to produce the #20, which happened to be SierraLei’s name. If anyone wants to see a video of this, you may also email me. Unfortunately when i uploaded it to youtube it distorted the daylights out of it- but the email version is fine!)

That being said, i want to especially thank everyone who participated. I will be holding a similar contest beginning in April! Big shout out to the two people who entered most often- GloGirl3 and BlissNo9! Thank you ladies 🙂

Spotlight on: Solid Perfume

One of the tricks I learned from working at a beauty store is that your perfume can come in many forms: eau de parfum, eau de toilette, perfume oil, and my favorite:solid perfume. The reason I love solid perfume so much is that it is the longest lasting form of a perfume, works on a sort of “time release” schedule, and its small enough to throw in my purse. Best of all, I don’t have to stress out over whether or not it will cause oil stains in my purse, or if I will break the bottle. The solid perfumes that I purchased come in a small metal tin, clearly labeled and easy to apply.

Solid Perfume is made of beeswax, when it’s introduced to the temperature of your skin it will melt into it. As your body heats up throughout the day, it will emit all the different bases of the perfume. One of the best brands of solid perfume that i’ve tried is Doctor Sweet Tooth’s. Right now, because it’s spring, I decided to go with Floral Bloom. This one actually doesn’t even smell like flowers, which is great because I have such bad allergies in the spring when it comes to flowers (and cut grass!). Flower Bloom has some floral notes- freesia, jasmine, orchid and rose- but it also has orange, bergamot, tea- all blended with patchouli. It doesn’t sound like something I would ever use, but when I smelled a sample of it I fell in love with it! I also loved the Rock Candy Star, which is a lush dupe and has an infusion of bubblegum, berries, vanilla and soda pop. My all time favorite scent, as many of you have read, is the Conversation Hearts which has peach, sweet tarts, raspberry, orange, and vanilla. It really is amazing!!

I also just purchased some from Skinny Dip Soaps- so you will see a review of that in the coming weeks! 🙂

Additionally, I wanted to thank all of my readers who are participating in the giveaway and following me. I got an awesome opportunity to review the new U.S launch of the Glossybox which should be appearing in the next couple weeks. I’m honored to be part of this, and it only happened because you guys are so awesome! Don’t forget to tell me about your good deeds, i’ll be announcing the winner around midnight tonight so make sure all your posts are in by 11:59 EST!

Too Faced Cosmetics : Romantic Eye Palette

In honor of the “Kindness is Sexy Contest”, which ends on the 27th at 11:59 PM, I’ved decided to be ambitious and write a post a day. Don’t forget to enter!!!

You can’t be a product junkie without Too Faced Cosmetics Romantic Eye Palette in your collection. For just $38.00 you get some of the best colors that the market currently has to offer. Normally, i wouldn’t even suggest such a large brand name as i love handmade products and support small businesses. I hold big brands to much higher standards, and Too Faced has surpassed every single one of them. I love their daytime look and have been rocking it out for the past couple of days.

As i’ve mentioned before i have issues with colors staying on my eyes- especially with the higher end brands. So to test it, i put it on right before going to bed, to see just how long it could stay. A full twelve hours later, and it was still going strong. Of course it helps that i took their advice and used the Too Faced Primer, as well. For those of you just starting out in the world of makeup, this product gives you different look cards to try and perfect, but it’s also a ton of fun to play around with. I have a really special event coming up in October- my favorite cousin is getting married- and i totally think that these colors would make her baby blues pop out so well. (She won’t let me do her makeup. I did it once when we were like ten, after having watched my mom do it for so many years…i would post the photo if i didn’t think i’d be killed in my sleep for it! ) Still, for brides and other romantic events- engagement parties, dates- the colors are so gorgeous. Luckily, it doesn’t take a makeup artist to make these look good- all you have to do is read their directions. Practice them! I’ve been doing it everyday the past week or so, and i can tell that i’m getting better at it. (Since I’m so pale, darker colors realllllly look drastic on me, and while I did makeup with my former job- it was typically a one color application. I love playing around with the palate and creating different looks- and also looking on youtube for other adaptations of the different looks! )

The Packaging is GORGEOUS- and not overly excessive. It comes in a really sturdy case. A+

The fact that you get nine generous shades of eye shadow also gets this product an A+.

While it’s a little pricey, if you had to pay for these shadows individually, it would be way more expensive.

It is especially great for people like me, who are not skilled in doing their own makeup, but enjoy learning and practicing — i especially love the eye in the picture and wish i could recreate that look!

Overall, the product gets an A because of it’s cost.

FTC Disclaimer: I paid for this product, and it was the best damn 38.00 plus tax and shipping that i EVER spent!

TAG from Sleeping Bootay!

So, i’ve been working all day on bringing you a new post on my Too Faced Cosmetics new eye shadow palette, as well as my nars lipstick review– but alas my camera batteries have died and it’s 11pm. So instead, i thought i’d take the opportunity to get to know you guys a little bit more! (Plus, i’m putting off writing my behavior of criminology report! OOPS!)

Here’s a tag that i got from one of my favorite bloggers : Sleeping Bootay

1. What is one product that makes you feel like a million dollars?

This was super tough. I wasn’t sure whether it had to be a product per se, or if it could be a pair of shoes- cause i have this super awesome pair of hot pink, sequin, rhinestone flats that paired with skinny jeans give me an instant confident boost. However, since this is a beauty blog, i’m going to go ahead and pick something i have only had about two weeks- my Too Faced Eye Shadow from the Romantic Palette. I have an “old hollywood” type face- very porcelain skin, features, and i would be considered “plus size” by todays standards, so this romantic palette definitely fits this theme- and it always makes me feel great!

2. What is your skincare secret? / A passed down skin care tip

Working for the Body Shop  i learned quite a few random secrets- and if you’d like to hear more, let me know! However, my favorite is what i call a “time saver” and if for the on the go girl (like me!). I use a glycerin based (it lathers) shower gel with scrub particles- to shave my legs. When i tell people, they look at me like i am nuts- but don’t knock it until you try it. It doesn’t really have any affect on the razor edge, and it really makes my skin so soft!

Also, a few of my friends suffer from eczema, so i often suggest to them not using soap that is not glycerin- or that contains sls. Parabens are also dangerous, so for those of you with skin issues (and don’t we all have them) i suggest trying to stay away from the cheapy brands (bath and body works= alcohol based) and investing in handmade items. Great company for this: Little Egg Harbor Soap Company.

3. Share your hair care secret?

I wash my hair every. single. day. (And i have done this for 22 years!)  I thought it was insane that people didn’t, until i did some major research. Even still, i do it sometimes. I have super thick hair and it looks greasy if i don’t. My favorite hair care secret right now is a tie between WEN cleansing conditioner and Doctor Sweet Tooth’s Rock Star Candy Dry Shampoo. Both help me out inbetween washes, but Wen makes my hair super soft!

4. What is your biggest diet rule?

Remember way back to question one when i tell you that i would be considered plus size? Well, that ties in here. I don’t believe in diets- but i do believe in Weight Watchers! I lost a ton of weight on their diet plan a few years back and since i am a bridesmaid, i’ve promised to give it another go. Be healthy. Stop comparing yourself to other people, and eat what you want to. I personally love water with lemon and would drink it 24 hours a day if i could!

5. Any workout tips?

Seeing that i have studied quite a lott of workouts as a Physical Therapy Student, i would say to find the one thing that you don’t think of as a workout- for me it’s walking on the beach. I love the beach and enjoy walking my dog on it, so its effortless for me to get the dog and go walking. Yet if you told me to go on the stair master i would moan and groan until the cows came home!

6. Which perfume is your secret weapon?

–  One of my favorite bosses, Amanda, used to always tell me that i “smell like cookies”! I love the Aquolina Pink Sugar perfume because people always compliment me on it, and it gets me talking to strangers. I love meeting new people even though i’m shy! My second favorite is Doctor Sweet Tooth’s Conversation Hearts Spray. My grandma used to bring me the Candy Conversation Hearts every year on Valentines Day, and this is a way to keep her with me even though she’s passed away. Whenever i wear it, it’s like our own little secret- i think, “I’m wearing this for you Gram, i Miss you and love you!” and I believe that somehow, this makes her smile.
7. Show us a clothing item of yours which always turns heads

I’m not just a product Junkie, i’m a handbag hoarder. I spent a year working with one of the world’s top manufacturers of handbags. My favorite handbag- which i will have to post a picture of when my camera works, is a silver creme hand bag with Gold C’s (you can guess the brand) and an applique flower. It’s called the Madison Aplique Flower Sophia Satchel. Regardless, I love it! I rarely wear it because it’s light colored and i get worried that the color of my jeans (rayon bleeds) will turn it colors! I typically opt for my Kristin Hobo!
8. What is your most treasured piece of jewellery?

I rescued a few pieces from my Grandma. One ring in particular is made up of old mine diamonds which are from about 1940. They don’t sparkle as much because people actually mined these diamonds in America and they were really put up against the elements, but again, I love old hollywood and this particular ring definitely makes me feel good. Wearing it makes me feel close to my grandma, which is a common theme i’m sure you see. She was my best friend!

9. Who is your style crush?

– My style crush is anyone who oozes confidence and wears what they want when they want. I LOVE Anne Hathaway, Jackie Kennedy, Princess Kate, Olivia Wilde, Zooey Deschanel, and Joan Rivers. YUP.. Joan Rivers! I love her line of boyfriend suit jackets on QVC. They really make a woman’s body look nice!  These women have a classic style that is all their own.

10. Tell us something we don’t know about you

I’m not sure what you would want to hear. I know you can go and just read my bio and find out some things about me which pretty accurately describes my work experience and passions. I have a beagle named Oreo who is 15 years old and i spend all my time with her by my side. I have gone to three colleges so far, one for addiction studies (associates degree) another for physical therapy (associates), a third for Psychology (bachelors) and my fourth will be for my graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling. The reason it took so long is rather personal- i suffered a loss that changed the very course of my life in my senior year of high school and led me to a road that was rather tough. I am the kid that almost dropped out of college during my first associates degree and now i am entering graduate school. I spent a few years listening to all the negativity around me, and for a while thought that i was “Too stupid”, (like everyone told me) to do something with my life. Obviously, i found out that they were wrong!  If ever you want someone to talk to, or even if you have beauty questions, i invite you to reach out to me via email: I truly love learning about new people, different cultures- and learning, in general!

Five products that i love, and six that i wish i never purchased- and a reminder about the contest going on RIGHT NOW!

So i thought it would be nice to give you a break on my “Spotlight on” review this week, mainly because i haven’t found a company since the last few that i would make a purchase from again. I will get up the NARS review as soon as the remaining colors arrive on my doorstep. I want to thank all 175 followers from wordpress, facebook, twitter and such for following me. You guys really make my day! Speaking of making days- don’t forget about my “Kindness is Sexy” give away! All you have to do is tell me about something kind that you did for someone else- getting a cup of coffee or walking your neighbors dog- and you could win a 50.00 giftcard to sephora or lush! Details are here.

I’m a little worried about constantly telling you guys about products i hate- which is why i haven’t posted any. I wan’t people to make their own informed decisions so if i don’t like a product, i normally don’t tell you about it. However, i saw a complaint about not being “objective” enough- so i decided that i would show you that i don’t LOVE every product that i purchase.

1. Bare Minerals Spf Original 15 Face Powder-

I broke out in a rash from this product. I couldn’t believe it, as so many people raved about it. But there is a specific chemical in it that is supposed to illuminate your skin- and anything that has illuminators in it i tend to break out terribly from. On the other hand- i do love their eye shadows and i think that they make some great products. I just didn’t like the foundation.

2. Physicians Formula Face Powder- Again, had illuminator in it and i broke out in an awful rash. It was a powdery mess and the packaging it was in could not manage to keep all that powder in it. I had a full bottle that i just ended up tossing. I quickly learned that anything in powder form is really not for me.I enjoy the Physician’s Formula eye palettes for green eyes and hazel eyes (my eye color is moody and changes often) but unfortunately, they have discontinued it.

3. Bath and Body Works Stress Relief Aroma Therapy- To give you an idea about this product- the bottle is green and that is the only reason it’s in my bathroom. To my knowledge, B&BW is a company that tests on animals, and contains methylparabens. Additionally, they use a TON of alcohol in their product, so while it’s cheap, it also dries the heck out of your skin. Not to mention the fact that this lotion smells like a boys locker room. I do enjoy their candles and other home fragrance products. However- i do stock up on their peppermint bath products only because peppermint naturally helps your headaches and i get headaches weekly (daily), and the peppermint i’ve bought elsewhere is REALLY pepperminty.

4. Mary Kay Eyebrow Pencil- Overpriced and barely works. I have to cake it on to get the desired affect, and i just don’t enjoy it. However, i did get a liquid foundation that has illuminators in it. If i wear it over my AWESOME Makeup Forever HD Foundation, i get a really sexy, dewy look to my skin!

5. My Conscious Box Subscription- I really don’t want to tell you that it was bad, but there wasn’t a single thing i would have used in there. My search for the perfect box subscription continues. It simply wasn’t for me, but might appeal to someone who is into superhealthy/earthy things- there were quite a few energy drink samples, grain crackers, whole wheat cornchips- and mineral makeup (a coupon). I honestly gave the food away and tossed it. I encourage you of course, to try it yourself and make your own decision about it.

6. You are going to see this on both my love and hate list: Body shop Tea Tree Face Wash- 14.00- It totally burned the daylights out of my skin. It was super abrasive and really made my skin super oily, which is weird considering its made for acne prone skin. I have occasional acne, and since i worked for them, i had to try the product (and i ended up purchasing it for another use… see #4 of Awesome products)

My top 5 AWESOME products:

1. Doctor Sweet Tooth Solid Perfume- I have it in Rock Star Candy and just placed an order for flower bloom- which is interesting because i hate flower scents, but this is very light and not over powering. I also put an order in for Conversation Hearts, which smells like candy– i love wearing it because it reminds me of my grandmother and it makes me feel close to her. The reason i love solid perfume, though, is because it’s the strongest most long lasting form of perfume. I hate carrying perfume in my bag, because i worked for Coach and almost all of them are overpriced designer hand bags and if perfume exploded in them i would just have a fit over it! (TIP: If you want to take care of your designer bag and make it last longer, DO NOT, I REPEAT- DO NOT carry pens in it! Pen does not come out of any material! Bag your makeup in a makeup case to keep it clean!) I think i paid 9.50 for it- but you don’t need a lot. It is in wax form, and the beeswax melts into your skin. As you heat up during the day, the smell permeates from your skin.

2. Crushed Botanicals Face Mask in Chocolate- You guys know that i love this- and i’ve been using it weekly. I really see a huge difference in my skin and it’s starting to look like it once did before i became the product junkie that i am. Thank you again to Kelli for making such a great product- it’s a total confidence booster when your skin looks this good that people are stopping you on the street! I nailed it on my first shot with this- i looked at other masks and this was the first one i purchased/tried and the only one that worked ( i tried two more!)

3.  Sweet Treat Cosmetics Eye Candy in Plum Purple- I purchased the 1.00 sample, just to try, and it’s amazing. Once i finish, i will be repurchasing. The pigmentation and color of these shadows does not compare to anything i own, and its such a reasonable price.

4. The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Wash- I use the face wash to clean my makeup brush. Tea tree naturally kills bacteria- and i don’t want bacteria to accumulate on my brushes or on my skin- so i use it to clean it. It actually works really, really well on my higher end brushes, and my cheapy brushes as well. To use it, i just pour a little bit into a clear container and fill it up with super hot water. Then i fill a second bowl with hot water (to conserve water!) I swish the brush in the water with the solution, then after a few minutes i squeeze the tip of the brush so the water comes out (and im sure the makeup is gone) and i dip it in clean water to rinse it, and ly it flat on a paper towel.

5. Urban Kitchen French Vanilla Candle- This company is on Etsy, but i didn’t purchase these candles. They were a gift from my brother who travelled to Boston over the summer. They are in a super cute and stylish tin, and they also are soy, so they double as a moisturizer for your skin (avoid your face).

You know you are a product junkie when…….. (and GIVEAWAY details!)

I decided to clean my workspace last night because when my room is cluttered i have a difficult time studying. I feel like i’m out of focus and can’t seem to get a handle on classwork right now. I was watching an interview today with Julia Roberts and she discussed the “culture of mean-ness”, i couldn’t have said it better myself. We live in a culture or a time period where we are intent in allowing our words and personal attacks harm others when it’s so simple to just make them feel good. Which then reminded me about the contest going on— don’t forget to tell me what nice things you are doing so you can be entered into the contest to win a 50.00 gift card to either sephora or lush (click me for details)! I only see six entries so i challenge everyone to do something extra-special tomorrow!! Today i wrote a super heartfelt letter to one of my favorite beauty guru’s who is having a tough time getting through the loss of a loved one. The loss of a young person is inherently tragic- and has shaped my own life so i can only imagine the hardships she may face.

Anyway, while cleaning my room i broke it down into the amount of stuff i had- and when i calculated it in terms of dollars, it was well around $5,000 dollars worth of stuff. When i woke up this morning to a spotless room i felt good, but found an application to hoarders on AETV taped to my boxes of skincare. I get the picture- i was on a use 20 products and spend nothing fix prior to this- but now i am not purchasing a single thing until every bottle is gone. I mean, i’ve got thirty bottles of perfume (most of which i wouldn’t wear) and more body butters than i could use in 15 years. The good news is most of it came from free samples or giveaways at work. Still, its a lot and i feel so bad that theres so much! EEK!

I’m waiting on my last nars lipstick to arrive to do a review on that and the romantic eye palette from too faced cosmetics, which i used and LOVED, but i’m not sure how i feel about it’s price – as  i feel you could go drugstore brand and get the same colors. We shall see! Thanks for reading, and please let me hear about the good things you are doing!
